By Andrea Huang 27 Feb 2019

The Xinhua News Agency has reported that Qingdao is building a very large football park named Baishawan Football Park, in its Chengyang District. Located near the coast, the park contains 22 football pitches of various sizes and is 243333 square meters.

The total investment for the park is CNY150m. There will be one 11-player four-stand pitch (without athletic running area), ten eleven-player one-stand pitches, eight seven-player one-stand pitches, and three five-player pitches. The 11-player four-stand pitch will be the first professional football pitch in Shandong Province.

The construction commenced in February 2019 and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2019. It is expected to be fully ready for use in the first half of 2022.

Upon its completion, the park will be able to meet high-performance training demands and can host major international football events. It will also function as a Chinese Football Association Youth Training Center.

The 2019 Gothia Cup China will be hosted in the park.

For the next step, Chengyang District will start to look for operators of the park.

Qingdao currently has 105 standard football pitches, which is 2.5 pitches per person, reaching the standard of developed football countries. There are 23 football specialized schools. 22 young people from Qingdao play in the national youth football teams.
