Chen Xuyuan elected President of Chinese Football Association

On August 22, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) held its 11th membership conference at the Xianghe National Football Training Center, where a new team of Executive Committee members,  President and Vice Presidents of the CFA were elected.

Chen Xuyuan, formerly President of the Shanghai International Port Group, was elected  the new President of the CFA, and Du Zhaocai, Sun Wen and Gao Hongbo were elected Vice Presidents.

As the first CFA President who has not served in the General Administration of Sport of China, Mr. Chen will commit himself full-time to the management of the CFA, and will have the power to make decisions, appointments and removals of personnel, and the power to make financial decisions.

The new Vice Presidents come from different backgrounds, but are all related to football. Mr. Du Zhaocai currently serves as the Vice Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, and is also a FIFA Council Member and AFC Referees Committee Chairman; Mr. Gao Hongbo is the former Head Coach of the China National Football Team and Ms. Sun Wen is the only Chinese footballer who has won not only the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year Award but was also voted the FIFA Female Player of the Century in 2000.

The CFA executive committee elected at the conference consists of people of different roles that include government officials, educational personalities and club representatives, such as Li Kemin who is the Director of Tianjin Municipal Sports Bureau, and representatives from Chinese Super League football clubs, Beijing Guo’an and Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao.

At the conference, Mr. Chen expressed his determination to bring the Chinese men’s team to the top of Asia, and the women’s team to stand among the world’s best again.
