La Liga and Chinese Football Association officially launch GoalFuture

By Zhao Litong 23 Aug 2019

The Spanish professional football league La Liga have signed an agreement with the Chinese Football Association to jointly launch a program called ‘GoalFuture’ aimed at creating elite footballers and a coach development system. The two parties will also use the program to strengthen cooperation and boost the development of grassroots football in China.

The newly announced partnership is a continuation of their cooperation signed last December in Madrid where the two parties opened a permanent training base. The China Men’s National Football U14 and U17 squads and the U15 China Women’s National Football squad have already trained at the base.

According to the agreement, La Liga will provide football clubs playing in its league with the latest information on Chinese youth football talent, and these Chinese football players and coaches will have the opportunity to improve their football skills in one of the top football leagues in the world.

La Liga’s Managing Director for the Greater China Region Mr. Sergi Torrents expressed his beliefs that the GoalFuture program will be a win-win for both parties, because it not only helps Chinese football to grow at the grassroots level, but also helps create more opportunities for La Liga clubs.

La Liga’s Director of Marketing and International Development Mr. Óscar Mayo Pardo said that information on Chinese youth footballers will open up more possibilities for La Liga clubs, and he used Chinese footballer Wu Lei who currently plays for Espanyol as an example. He expressed his confidence that with accurate information and timely follow-ups, more Chinese footballers can follow Wu Lei’s path in developing their skills in  top football leagues.
