Luís Figo extends football academy to China

By Yutang Sports 29 Jun 2015

Former Portuguese football player Luís Figo visited China on 27 June, to sign a strategic cooperation agreement with Chengdu Football Association to bring his football school Winning League Figo Football Academy to China.

When asked about the reason of choosing Chengdu as the city for his academy, Luís said that he actually plans to expand the academy to many cities of China while Chengdu was an important city during this process. He hopes to provide good facilities and learning opportunities for children there.

He said that football as the largest sport in the world would have very big potentials in a country as populous as China. He thought that to develop youth football training would thus be very meaningful in China.

Mr Figo has been involved in this project in the past months. According to his Facebook page, he has been to Chengdu in April for the football academy. The chief purpose of this latest visit was to land the academy in Chengdu, as reported on Weibo.

During this visit, he also attended Panda Cup International Youth Football Development Meeting (literally translated) held in Chengdu.
