Lord Sebastian Coe wins the presidency of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) beating Ukrainian rival Sergey Bubka by 155 votes to 92 in the vote at the IAAF Congress on Wednesday morning in Beijing. 

Coe takes over the organisation as it battles to uphold its reputation following doping allegations levelled at athletics. 

The former Olympic 1500 metres champion will replace Senegalese Lamine Diack, who has run the body for the last 16 years, at the end of the Aug. 22-30 world championships in Beijing.

Coe has aggressively defended the IAAF's record on doping over the last three weeks, saying the organisation had "led the way" on out-of-competition testing and laboratories, and introduced blood passports in 2009 to help weed out the cheats. Coe has previously said that under his leadership the sport would move towards setting up its own anti-doping agency.

The new president has also said he will give every member federation at least $100,000 over four years as part of an Olympic Athletics Dividend aimed at boosting the sport all over the world.

The 2015 IAAF World Championships will be held from Aug. 22 to 30 in Beijing's landmark National Stadium, known as the "Birds' Nest". It will be the first time for the biyearly tournament to come to China.
