Basketball star Zhou to open training camp with Nike

By Zhang Tingting 07 Oct 2015

19-year-old Chinese basketball star Zhou Qi says he plans to open a basketball training camp in the capital city of Henan Province in the second half of October.

The basketball camp is assisted by Nike, which Zhou Qi signed with a few months ago. Nike would provide assistance in fees, equipment, and techniques.

The camp is going to be aimed at teenagers under 16, said Zhou Qi, and would be used to help discover talented youths for Chinese basketball.

Zhou Qi is one of the most promising young professional basketball athletes in China, who is widely considered to be a likely candidate for NBA. He played as a member of the Chinese team in the FIBA Asian Championship which ended a few days ago and where China won the championship.

He now plays in the CBA team Xinjiang Flying Tigers and is said to have achieved better performances than Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian when they were at his age.

Xinjiang Flying Tigers paid 45 million yuan in 2014 for his transfer fee. In April, he participated in the Nike Hoop Summit.
