On Monday November 17th English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur FC sealed a partnership deal with Qingdao Chongding FC involving a youth training project and exchange programme.
Under the partnership, Spurs will help improve the management and training system of the Qingdao-based soccer club over the coming years.
In addition, Qingdao Chongding will select a group of outstanding youth players and send them to London during the 2016 Spring Festival holiday. The players will visit White Hart Lane and have a friendly game against the Tottenham Hotspur Youth Academy team.
Liu Guojiang, former head coach of Bayi FC and current CTO at Chongding FC, sees this as both a challenge and an opportunity to develop campus soccer in China. He has high expectations for this partnership with the EPL side.
“We’ve looked at a variety of overseas (soccer) clubs, and finally decided to partner with EPL side Tottenham Hotspur FC who have developed a system of community soccer”.
Tottenham Hotspur FC club ambassador Ledley King was also present and said the partnership will provide a platform for Chinese young talents to display their skills and that Spurs are willing to help develop the sport in China.
