By He Lanying 25 Nov 2015

Beijing-based pay-television operator StarTimes, which broadcasts in sub-Saharan Africa, has announced the acquisition of rights to the next two FIFA Club World Cup competitions. This year’s tournament begins on December 13 in Japan.

The company has also secured the rights to screen the Italian club football competitions, the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup, for the next three seasons. The financial terms of the deal have not been revealed.

“We are extremely excited about the growing variety of football properties on our platforms and to add the Fifa Club World Cup goes a long way to demonstrate our commitment to give our subscribers the best variety of football action,” StarTimes Vice President Mark Lisboa said.

“This event is one of our most exciting and important sports properties and we look forward to its start in a few days time. It is our hope that our customers will enjoy this festival of football champions.”

The Italian Cup will be broadcast on StarTimes from December 2 with eight matches from the 4th Round of the competition. It is exclusively live on StarTimes in Sub-Saharan Africa for three seasons.
