The Dutch premier league side ADO Den Haag has run into financial difficulties due to the lack of promised payments from the Chinese owner Wang Hui, according to the broadcaster Nos.

The club is now under threat with a liquidity deficit of €1.3 million, the board of the Dutch club announced recently at a press conference. 

ADO waited for a long time on two crucial payments totaling €1.9 million, but Wang Hui defaulted on the payments. 

“He is not responding to calls from the club and they don’t know where he is,” Nos said.

Wang, the owner of a sports marketing company United Vansen, promised to make a considerable investment in ADO when he completed the takeover for about €8 million last year. The club posted a €700,000 loss last season. 

On Sunday, Dick Advocaat, who played for The Hague for seven years, made a public appeal for ADO to be taken back into Dutch hands. This demand was echoed by some local politicians, according to website Voetbal International.

Den Haag are currently 13th in the Dutch premier league.
