Alibaba to sponsor 2016 FIFA Club World Cup

By Chen Yaping 09 Dec 2015

Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce giant, will replace Toyota as the title sponsor for the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup, according to a statement just released today(Wednesday). It is no secret that the company is building a sports kingdom. However, unlike its competitors, the giant has posted very few breaking news stories recently.

Last week, the public relations department of Alibaba issued a great challenge. They invited the Chinese sports and business media to attend a press conference in Tokyo this Wednesday but disclosed no further details, except to state that“this news will hit the headlines during the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup.” Media speculation has proved to be correct and the e-commerce company will sponsor the event. This will also help strengthen China’s bid for the FIFA Club World Cup. The above information has just been officially confirmed by Alibaba.

The 2016 FIFA Club World Cup is a FIFA-organised international club football tournament between the champion clubs from each of the six continental confederations, as well as the national league champion from the host country. The tournament will be hosted by Japan.
