Nedvěd replaces Beckham as CSL ambassador

Pavel Nedvěd, the former Czech midfielder said on Wednesday he has been named ambassador of the Chinese Super League (CSL) to replace David Beckham.

"I have become ambassador of the Chinese league today," Nedvěd said. "Before me it was David Beckham so it's a great honour for me and for the entire Czech Republic," he told reporters during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Prague. "In future, you'll have to reckon with Chinese football," he added.

Nedvěd is a legend at Sparta Prague, Lazio and Juventus. He played 91 games for the Czech national team, helping them to reach the Euro 1996 final, where they lost to Germany. He is now Vice President of the Italian Serie A side Juventus.

During his visit to Strahov, President Xi gave an award to Nedvěd who has "become the face of the Chinese Football Super League" according to Czech President Zeman's spokesman, Jiří Ovčáček, on Twitter.
