MLS expands partnership with LeSports

By Chen Yaping 25 Apr 2016

According to a report posted on www.mlssoccer.com, Major League Soccer (MLS) has expanded its partnership with Chinese internet giant LeEco’s sports arm, LeSports.

The LeSports and MLS digital partnership, announced in 2015, has confirmed that LeSports will be able to carry the league’s live streams across digital platforms.

Under this new deal, LeSports will acquire the rights to televise live MLS games in mainland China.

This television deal includes multiple live MLS regular season matches every week, the AT&T MLS All-Star Game as well as games from the Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs and MLS Cup. In addition, Le Sports will continue to carry highlights, player features and other MLS content across its digital platforms.

MLS also has a new partnership with Japan's Fuji TV to televise regular season matches. Under the deal Fuji TV will include broadcasts of two MLS regular season matches per week, select Audi 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs games and the MLS Cup final during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. MLS retains the rights to digital live games and news clip packages in Japan.

“We are very focused on broadening our reach in the Asian market, and the LeSport and Fuji deals announced today (on April 21) are a big part of that growth” according to a statement issued by Gary Stevenson, President & Managing Director of MLS Business Ventures.
