By Pu Yang 30 Jun 2016

Ali Sports, the sports unit of China’s e-commerce powerhouse Alibaba Group, is reportedly set to hire former IMG China Vice President, Wei Quanmin, as their new Vice President(VP) and General Manager of their Event Department.

According to a report on Chinese sports media SportsMoney, Wei has officially departed from IMG and will soon take up his office at Ali Sports. He will oversee Ali Sports’ event development and operation under his new role.

Wei, who graduated from Beijing Sport University, joined IMG in 2004 as an intern. During his 12 year career at IMG, he actively involved himself in a number of the company’s golf events in China. He was also responsible for agenting top Chinese golfers, including Feng Shanshan, Liang Wenchong and Janet Lin. In addition to golf, he has either involved or overseen over 100 sports programmes, such as Beckham’s China Tour, Manchester United’s China Tour and partnerships with the CSL and China Open (tennis).
