Huawei extends deal with Canberra Raiders

By Chen Yaping 26 Aug 2016

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has signed a three-year extension as the major sponsor of National Rugby League (NRL) outfit Canberra Raiders, according to a recent report by Sportspromedia.

As stated in the report, Huawei will continue to be the front-of-shirt sponsor on both the home and away kits worn by the Australian rugby league side. It is said that this deal is worth about US$761,000 per season.

Canberra remain in the 3rd place in the 2016 NRL Telstra Premiership. Their new deal with Huawei is an extension of the existing deal, which expires at the end of the 2016 season.

"It's a credit to Ricky, he said to us at the start of the year that he's got a fantastic team here and that it was going to be a good three years," said Jeremy Mitchell, Huawei's Head of Corporate Affairs. "We took that on board and signed on for three years. By the end of that season we will be the longest-serving major sponsor of the Raiders. That's historic and we feel privileged by that."
