Chinese company acquires Lampre-Merida's WorldTour licence

Chinese company TJ Sport Consultation has announced that it will replace CGS Cycling as the new license holder of Italian cycling team Lampre-Merida.

The company said that it is looking to create China's first WorldTour team from the 2017 season onwards. In coming weeks, a Chinese naming rights sponsor will be announced.

"The goals of the team will be the achievement of a high level of competitiveness in the Tour de France and the development of Chinese cycling in view of the participation in the next Olympic Games." as revealed in a statement from Lampre-Merida team.

"One of the commitments of TJ Sport Consultation, whose president is Mr Li Zhiqiang, is the development of cycling in all its useful purposes: cycling as a means of transport which promotes a sustainable mobility and cycling as a sport to be developed in all its disciplines and categories."
