As the CBA 2016-2017 season draws near, on October 24th, Marbury, an NBA All-Star and top foreign player in CBA, released a video on Weibo, triggering a heated debate on the Internet. In the video, Marbury said: "I have decided to enter the electronic sports industry and set up my own team. I am looking forward to you joining, and we fight side by side!”

On 25th October news broke that Giant and T2 Entertainment, in collaboration, were officially launching an All-Star program in “Freestyle”, the world's first 3V3 mobile basketball game. In this game, a team consists of three players. The players use virtual joysticks to play. Many basketball players will join “Freestyle”, making up the All-Star electronic sports team. Marbury is to be the first team member and will also recruit team members on behalf of “Freestyle”.

In 2010, Marbury left the NBA and came to China, playing for the Beijing Jinyu men's basketball team. He is the first foreign player to be given a permanent residence permit in China. He has helped the Beijing men's basketball team to win the CBA league on three occasions in recent years and is highly influential in China.
