The Global Football Analytics Summit Beijing 2016 organized by Sport8 took place in Beijing on Tuesday Dec. 13th and was hailed as a great success by the organisers. The first day of the event brought together over 400 delegates and representatives from China and overseas, including many leaders from the data and analytics area and from football clubs.
Speakers include Jan Schneider, Vice President of Global Head of Strategy Sports & Entertainment, SAP SE; Romuald Nguyen, International Affairs Director of FFF; Daniel Stenz, Head of Analytics & Scouting, Hungarian National Football Team; Qingyang Lin, Assitant General Manager; Luneng Football Club; Haibin Yang, Deputy Director of Beijing Sports Bureau; Tony Liu, Founder & CEO of Shanghai Champion Technology Co., Ltd.; Ross Munro, Vice President of Sports Product of Vizrt; Zheng Han, Founder & CEO of ZEPP; Kevin Paxton, Head of Academy Sports Science of Leicester City FC; Nicolas Blanc, CEO of Sport Value Credit Management; Devin Nambiar, Head of Product Management APAC of EA; Jason Blake, Director of Football Operations of UCFB.,etc.
There were four topics down for discussion at the summit: “The Important Position of Analytics for Modern Soccer,” “The Practical Significance of Analytics for the Development of Chinese Soccer,” “Data Analytics for Sport Performance and Recovery” and “Big Data Connected with Football Derivative Sector.” The use of analytics in amateur football and in youth academies were also two key topics of discussion.
During the first day’s sessions, Qiang Bai, the CEO of Sport8, made a keynote speech “Moneyball — the Art of Big Data Utilization.” He stated that the problem of Chinese football developments is “Why,” not “How” and that the industry needs to enable Chinese parents and children to see a promising future in playing football. This point received the agreement of other speakers in a group media interview.
Other speakers provided different views of the utilization of analytics and big data in sports from perspectives of football club management teams, technology companies, market research companies and club analytics experts.
