Chinese Professional Football League to launch in March

By Yutang Sports 06 Jan 2017

According to a report by the Xinhua News Agency, Ma Chengquan, the Director of the Executive Board of the CFA (Chinese Football Association) Professional League Council (temporary name), has indicated that the preparatory group conference for the Chinese Professional Football League will be held in a few days. There will be further discussion on the league constitution draft, which will then be submitted to the CFA (Chinese Football Association) Executive Committee. When the constitution is approved, the comprehensive application materials will be prepared by the end of January or early February and submitted to department of the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Once these materials are approved, the Chinese Professional Football League will be set up in late February or early March.

Ma Chengquan says that, after the adjustment, the new administration organization of the professional league will be called “the Chinese Professional Football League (“the League”) for now, and its nature will be a social organization as a legal entity in itself. The setting up of the League will boost the modernization of professional league management, and “get the organization and competition levels of the Chinese Professional Football League to become the best in Asia, and eventually the Number 1 in the world.”

It is said that CFA will not become a member of the League when it is set up, while the 32 football clubs from the CSL (Chinese Super League) and the China League will become league members. Clubs from C2L (Chinese Football Association Division Two League) will not join in the League for now. As indicated by Ma Chengquan, C2L is gradually expanding and there is a plan to get these clubs into the League after 2019, when they are ready.
