On Jan. 15, the 2017 World Snow Day and International Children’s Ski Festival were held simultaneously in Jilin Beidahu Ski Resort and another 25 ski resorts across the country.
Ms. Sarah Lewis, Secretary General of the International Ski Federation (FIS), Gao Zhidan, Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee & Deputy Director of China's General Administration of Sport, Duan Shijie, Vice President of the Chinese Olympic Committee & President of the Chinese Ski Association and Li Jinxiu, Deputy Governor of Jilin Province, were present at the events of the day. The World Snow Day activities are hosted by the FIS. Over 450 events in 46 countries took place on the 2017 World Snow Day with 300,000 children involved, which was a record.
The 2017 World Snow Day and International Children’s Ski Festival events in China have been further enhanced by the increase in the number of ski resorts, the number of participants, and increased promotional efforts. The number of ski resorts, participating simultaneously, increased from 20 last year to 26 this time.
These events, held during the preparation for the Winter Olympics, have played an irreplaceable role in extending the participation in winter sports, whilst creating a good atmosphere for winter sports and raising awareness among people for the 2022 Winter Olympic.
Ms Lewis also said that, as the upcoming five years before the Winter Olympic is a great time for promoting and developing winter sports, more and more top skiers and winter sports athletes will emerge in China and skiing will become an important part of Chinese people’s daily life.
