Wuxi, a city in southern Jiangsu Province, is set to host the new World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series through to 2020, World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue revealed at a press conference in Beijing.
The press conference was also attended by Gou Zhongwen, President of the Chinese Olympic Committee and Director of the State General Administration of Sports.
Each year, the 8-tournament series consisting of every Olympic taekwondo weight category (four men's and four women's) will see the 12 top athletes competing in each category.
For the 2017/18 series, which will kick off at the end of 2017, the total prize money in each tournament will be up to US$800,000 with the champion of each weight category awarded US$70,000.
According to several news reports, the Wuxi Organizing Committee has created a taekwondo venue for the series.
Guan Jianmin, President of the Chinese Taekwondo Association, said, the Chinese National Taekwondo Team will have this great opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games.
