October 15, Olbia: Jinjiang, located in Fujian Province China, has been officially announced as the host city of the Gymnasiade 2020 at the International School Sport Seminar 2017 in Olbia, Italy making Jinjiang the second Chinese city to stage the games following Shanghai in 1998.
According to Jinjiang’s bidding files, the Jinjiang Gymnasiade 2020 will last for 8 days, featuring 8 sports including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, basketball, football, tennis, table-tennis and chess.
Huang Qiyu, Executive Chairman of Jinjiang Bidding Committee and Deputy-Governor of Fujian Provincial Government, stated that Jinjiang was capable of hosting the games with great support from the government. Huang also believes that to stage these games in Jinjiang will engage nearly 85 million middle school students in sports participation.
Located in Fujian Province, Jinjiang is a coastal county-level city with a population of over two million.The city is widely known as the “home of sportswear manufacturers” in China where the headquarters of ANTA, Xtep and K-Bird are based.
Over the years, the city has hosted dozens of international sports events covering beach volleyball, cycling, marathon running and basketball.
