LeTV Sports was separated from LeTV a while ago, and holds live broadcasting rights of many overseas events, including the Premier League, NBA, NFL, PAC-12, and Super Bowl. Recently, in an interview by 21st Century Business Herald, the vice president of it revealed that they were planning to launch a company in the US this month. The company aims at purchasing overseas sports events, instead of merely investing in broadcasting rights.
LeTV Sports was separated from LeTV about two years ago, although still a part of the Group. LeTV Sports is one of the major online sports streaming platforms in China. It has rights to big events such as the five football leagues in Europe, as well as some minority events of different sports. The company is going to continue to develop the minority events in 2015. Cycling, marathon, action sports, and winter sports are all likely to be considered.
But broadcasting right is not the entire plan. Mr. Yu Hang, vice president of LeTV Sports, said that they were not satisfied with the current state and they wanted to become a global company in the sports industry, rather than a sports company in China. To achieve this, they are going to work towards the upper level resources within the industry, i.e. sports events. One of the steps for this is the launching of an independent company in America. The company will explore business and resources in America.
Yu said, “The Group has a big overseas strategy, and so does LeTV Sports.”
