Suning and MIGU reach strategic partnership on sports content

By Andrea Huang 12 Jul 2018

Suning and MIGU reached a strategic partnership on July 11 to mutually strengthen both sides in sports broadcasts and content production.

The two parties plan to start full-industry chain collaborations in areas such as live sports streaming, content production, smart hardware, big data application and sports facilities. There will also be specific collaboration between Suning’s PP Sports and MIGU’s MIGU Video. MIGU Video will play diversified sports content from PP Sports on MIGU Video mobile apps. MIGU Video will also use China Mobile’s telecommunication technology advantages to help develop both sides’ user bases and increase advertisement  revenues.

They launched a "451" agenda. 4 represents 4k and 5 represents 5G. 1 represents combining these two new technologies to create a whole new ecosystem.

MIGU has become an emerging face in the field of digital sports content streaming in China. They partnered with CCTV to live stream the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia on the MIGU Video app back in May 2018, which officially catapulted the China Mobile subsidiary into people’s attention as a digital platform consuming sports related content.  The partnership with Suning, and in particular the collaboration with PP Sports, will help to further enhance their position as a digital platform in China to watch live sports content.

Suning Sports currently holds the rights to many top international and domestic sports leagues and events, such as the German Bundesliga, English Premier League, Ligue 1, UEFA Champions League, Team China (football), CSL, the AFC Champions League and others.

Suning has a comprehensive business presence and arrangements in areas such as media, sports competitions, clubs, youth training and sports by-products. The partnership between Suning and MIGU will be worth paying attention to.
