The Xinhua News Agency has reported that the French embassy in Wuhan has revealed the French Tennis Federation will land its Roland Garros Red Clay Tennis Club in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province and the host city of the Wuhan Open tennis event, in 2019. This is the fourth Chinese city that has agreed to set up the red clay tennis club with Nanchang, Changsha and Anning being the previous cities.
The Roland Garros Red Clay Tennis Club will be located in the Wuhan Airport Economic Development Zone which is mainly within the Huangpi District of Wuhan City. With the presence of the club in the city, it is understood that more red clay tennis courts would be constructed there to help more local communities and tennis fans experience true red-clay-court tennis, and as a result, to grow the Roland Garros brand influence.
It is also possible that the Roland Garros Series Junior Wildcard would come to Wuhan after the club is set up.
An official signing ceremony between the French Tennis Federation, PowerChina Real Estate Group and Wuhan Huangpi District Municipal Government will be held on September 30, during the opening ceremony of France Week in Wuhan festival.
The French Tennis Federation hopes to build 10 Roland Garros Red Clay Tennis Club in China, according to Stephane Morel, Head of Marketing, Licensing & Retail at FFT.
