CCTV reportedly to sign La Liga rights package

By AS & Zhibo, edited by Yutang Sports 05 Aug 2015

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV will sign a deal to pick up the rights to Spain’s La Liga for the next five seasons, according to news report from Spanish paper AS.

The international rights deal, for which the broadcaster will pay 75 million euros per season, will allow La Liga matches to be shown in China.

Whilst struggling to lock down the sale of La Liga’s international audiovisual rights, LFP President Javier Tebas took advantage of his trip to China where he is accompanying Atlético de Madrid to close an agreement with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV which will enable live broadcast of matches in Spain’s top two divisions in China over the next five seasons. The broadcaster will pay a total fee of 375 million euros for broadcasting rights package and is expected to announce details of the operation in next few days.

The sale of international broadcasting rights has been one of the main bones of contention for the LFP during the summer. The distribution of revenue proposed by the LFP has caused some resentment, but the CCTV deal however, would represent a substantial boost in income for Spain’s clubs.
