La Liga, the governing body of the top division of Spanish football, has teamed up with beIN Media Group and Chinese group PPTV. Their aim is to deliver an international experience around this weekend's ‘El Clásico’ clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona to three overseas markets.
La Liga will create two branded fan zones in the Chinese city of Shanghai and the American city of Miami to broadcast the‘El Clásico’ clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona on a giant screen. In addition to fan zones created for Chinese and US fans, the Spanish league has also decided to set up a similar zone in the Spanish military base in Lebanon, allowing Spanish troops to enjoy the game.
Former La Liga stars will be present at each site to support the El Clásico initiative, with Gaizka Mendieta travelling to Miami, Christian Karembeu to Shanghai and Ismael Urzaiz to Lebanon.
The initiative comes as part of La Liga's international branding strategy and follows the creation of 'La Liga lounges' in Doha, Qatar last month.
