Desports, a subsidiary of Wuhan-based Double Group, announced yesterday that it has formed an alliance with the international company Media Base Sports (MBS) and Gino Pozzo, the joint owner of Watford FC.
The newly established Desports Football Alliance is aiming to strengthen football in China by exporting its management philosophy which has been so successful with European clubs and to bridge the commercial gap between Europe and China.
MBS is one of the most important ‘players’ in the European market. The company manages the careers of many of the elite players in Spanish, German and English football. This new agreement will ensure the building of bridges to the Chinese league in order to attract a greater volume of footballing talent from across the globe.
Gino Pozzo is the owner of the Premier League club Watford, the Spanish La Liga club Granada, and the Italian club Udinese. This partnership will enable him to bring his work ethic and philosophy to Chinese sporting organisations in the near future.
Desports is one of the most prestigious sports agencies. It has assisted the International Olympic Committee in finding sponsors, the ATP and the WTA during the Tennis Masters 1000, as well as facilitating the recent agreement signed between the energy drink company Energy King and Luis Suárez (a footballer managed by MBS) for the assignment of image rights over the next four years.
