LeSports to launch pay-to-watch model for 2016/17 EPL

LeSports, the sports arm of leading Chinese internet company LeEco, has announced that it will continue to broadcast the upcoming English Premier League(EPL) online, making all 380 matches available to its subscribers who pay for a 590 yuan ($88.9) one-year LeSports Pass.

According to a recent report, LeSports has extended its deal with Super Sports, the exclusive rights holder of the 2010-19 Premier League in China. Coverage will increase from the existing broadcast rights of 230 matches on PC and mobile to also include 380 matches on over-the-top TV (OTT) for the first time.

In other words, LeSports will present the 2016-17 season on an omni-media level. Viewers will have access to live broadcasts of all fixtures, a variety of original and exclusive Premier League programmes and image-text news across all devices.

LeSports is also looking to set up a team of commentators to offer multilingual commentary in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

In addition, 360 degree panorama technology and augmented reality (AR) will be introduced to improve users' experience.

"LeSports added 1.5 million subscribers since rolling out its first ever paid membership service this April," stated Yu Hang, chief operating officer of LeSports.
