Up to midnight on Dec 31, 2016, China’s sports lottery sales had reached RMB188.15 billion for 2016, with the Sports Lottery Public Welfare Fund reaching RMB 44.8 billion. Among these the lotto-lottery sales reached RMB98.09 billion, the guessing-lottery sales reached US$76.40 billion, and the instant lottery sales reached US$76.40 billion. Sales in the provinces of Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan and Hebei all exceeded RMB10 billion.
In Aug 2016, the General Administration of Sport officially issued the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan for the development of the sports lottery. This indicated that during this Five-Year Plan period, the sports lottery development will actively follow the strategic layout and concept requirements of national development, and strengthen its fundamental role as a national lottery for public welfare.
By the end of the thirteenth Five-Year Plan period, the aim is to significantly improve the quality and benefits of the sports lottery, further increase sales, make it better reflect the concept of a lottery for public welfare and responsibilities, and enhance the legalization and standardization development.
