2017 Global Poker League kicks off

French sports & entertainment company Mediarex jointly held a press conference on May 31 with Juzhong Joy, an intellectual sports company, to announce the kick off of the 2017 Global Poker League (GPL). GPL China, a new division of GPL opened its 6-month league registration system on June 1. Beijing, Shanghai and 7 other mainland China cities, as well as Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan will host the 2017 GPL tournament.  

Tournaments in the 2017 GPL China will be based on a team-based structure. Each city's teams must consist of members selected from registered players in that city. Each team will have a 6 player roster and 2 Wild Card Mentors taking part at a national level league. All tournament  winners of the GPL China will receive millions (RMB) in prize money and automatically qualify to play in the 2017 GPL Finals.

The Global Poker League (GPL) is an audience-centric poker competition with a team-based, zero buy-in structure and games will be shown live  online in the studio and at the world-famous The Cube in Las Vegas. League action will be livestreamed globally on Twitch and other OTT platforms (as well as via other distribution methods), with the opening season and post-season action playing out from April-December.
