According to the official website of the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, a funding of 930 million RMB ($136.8m) will be invested in 1257 public sports venues belonging to sports governing bodies. This investment aims to support those venues to either open freely to the public or at a lower entry fee.
The Central Government has been funding public sports venues for the same purpose since 2014. This funding is composed of allowances and rewards whereby subsidies are provided to venues who either provide free admission to the public or at a discounted price. Those venues who are dedicated to improving their service ability and quality will receive rewards from this government scheme.
From 2014 to 2017, the Central Government has invested 3.5 billion RMB ($514.8m) into these public sports venues, promoting those venues owned by provincial or municipal sports governing bodies who successfully provide free or discounted admission to the public. This funding is beneficial to meet the overwhelming demand and need for physical activities and thus stimulate sports consumption. Additionally, those subsidised venues are expected to have more active operations and develop a healthier public environment.
