Bundesliga Legends Network selects Chinese player to promote the league

By Zhang Qi 08 Aug 2017

Chinese international football player, Shao Jiayi, has been named member of the nine-man Bundesliga Legends Network to promote the league in China.

“I am still very proud of the time when I played football in the Bundesliga, so I am very glad that I can contribute to the league,” said Shao Jiayi.

Shao Jiayi has played 168 times for TSV 1860 Munich, FC Energie Cottbus and MSV Duisburg in the 2. Bundesliga and Bundesliga, scoring 24 goals. He returned to Beijing Guoan in 2012 and retired three years later as the club’s sports director.

Shao will be responsible for the promotion of the Bundesliga in China, alongside another star Jorg Albertz who was awarded China's "Player of the Year" during his two seasons at Shanghai Shenhua.

As the brand ambassadors of the Bundesliga, Shao and Jorg Albertz, they will be involved in fan and media events such as coaching football matches, CSR events or as experts in various shows to promote the popularity of the league in China.

The Bundesliga Legends Network also named seven other former Bundesliga players in its important target markets, including USA (Steven Cherundolo), Mexico (Pavel Pardo), Ghana (Anthony Baffoe), Oceania (Wynton Rufer), South Korea (Bum-Kun Cha) and Brazil (Paulo Sergio).

The Bundesliga hoped that these former Bundesliga players will spread the values and characteristics of the Bundesliga throughout the world and report on their experiences in the German professional football leagues.
