October 25: On the eve of the Chinese University Basketball League’s (CUBA) 2017/18 season, Alisports have announced that they have renewed the broadcasting deal for the league with Viva China Sports, the exclusive operators of the league.
In the upcoming new edition of the league, Alisports will stream all of the 198 games of this season on their platforms, such as video websites Youku and Tudou, as well as the UC Browser and the set-top TV box, Tmall Box.
New broadcasting technologies will also be featured into the live stream. Reportedly, Alisports will display instant data of the players by partnering with the league’s official statistics partner. Panoramic cameras and unmanned aerial vehicles will also be introduced into the broadcasting system for the new season of the league.
What is worth mentioning is a project for college students, literally called “ The Blueberry Project (蓝莓计划)” which Alisports launched last year for college students, allowing them to join the broadcasting and reporting process of the games. Reportedly, the project will also take place in this new edition and hope to engage nearly 100 participating students.
Prior to this renewal, Alisports had extended their partnership with PAC-12 Conference in early October. According to Cai Chongxin from Alisports, the sports arm of Alibaba Group is dedicated to introducing the American on-campus sports culture to China and help cultivate a culture of sports among Chinese college students.
