China’s first ever specialised marathon running track is to be built in Hefei, Anhui Province this year, according to many Chinese reports.

Jianghuai Morning News reports that the track will cost around RMB170 million. The track will be equipped with facilities for runners to get replenishment and medical treatment during competitions.

In addition to a specialised track, a marathon-themed cultural center will also be built in Hefei’s Dawei to show the development of marathon with the aid of historic photos, objects and videos.

Additionally, Sun Yingjie, former world champion in half marathon and three-time winner of the Beijing International Marathon, will organise a marathon training camp in alliance with the organising committee of the Dawei Half Marathon.

Hefei is expected to hold the IRONMAN 70.3 (1.9km swim + 90km cycle + 21.1km run), this October after striking a deal with Wanda Sports.
