Chinese Super League giant Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao FC has named Li Yimeng as its new president in place of the outgoing Liu Yongzhuo. The club made the announcement yesterday, 13th April, and this signals an attempt to strengthen the club’s management and raise its revenue.
The new appointment was announced in an internal personal file signed by the club’s owner Xu Jiayin, one of the top property tycoons in China.
In appointing the new president, Evergrande aims to overhaul and upgrade almost every aspect of the club, including club management, the administration of trading players (both domestic and foreign) and the club's marketing ability and profitability, states the document.
It is still unknown where Liu will be placed after his exit. It's speculated that Guangzhou Evergrande's lacklustre performance in the AFC Champions League resulted in Liu's removal. He was appointed to the role in February after former president Ke Peng and two other executives of China's most successful club had resigned.
