By Zhang Qi 16 Aug 2017

American sports brand Pony announced Chinese singer Zhou Bichang to be its ambassador on Tuesday.

The brand also launches an exclusive shoe for Zhou, which is in black and white with the typical V mark.

Pony is famous for its shoes, which all have a V mark representing Victory. The brand entered the Chinese market in 2005 and has more than 300 shops in the country.

Pony was founded by Roberto Muller in New York in 1972 with the financing from Adidas Chairman Horst Dassier. With great popularity among professional athletes in the NBA, NFL, MLB, Boxing and World Cup, Pony became one of the top sports brands in the world by the middle of 1980s, during which its sales soared to US$800 million.

In February 2015, US companies Iconix and Anthony L&S Athletics LLC acquired North American rights and related intangible assets of Pony for US $37 million from Symphony Holdings.

As a famous Chinese singer, Zhou has won My Favorite Female Singer (Mainland China) of The Chinese Music Awards in 2010 and 2012. In 2014, she won an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Worldwide Act. In 2015, she won a Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Award for Favorite Chinese Act.
