The International Olympic Committee has opened its first-ever online store, the Olympic Store, on China’s e-commerce platform Tmall which belongs to Alibaba Group. This was announced by the IOC and Alibaba Group on Saturday, December 15. Alibaba is a Worldwide Top Partner of IOC, the official “Cloud Services” and “E-Commerce Platform Services” Partner until 2028.
The store allows Chinese fans to purchase officially licensed Olympic products with no limitations as to time, locations and Olympic Cycles. Chinese consumers will also be the first to enjoy the online Olympic stores around the world.
The store is currently offering more than 300 licensed products, including products from three core types of products: the Olympic Games Collection, the Olympic Heritage Collection and the Olympic Collection.
The Olympic Games Collection offer products around Beijing 2022 and Tokyo 2020. The Olympic Heritage Collection include products of the past editions of the Olympic Games, including products about the first Athens Olympic Games in 1896. Over 50 of these products are on offer to the Chinese market for the first ti.
The Olympic Collection features products for young people including sports equipment and toys.
Alibaba Group CMO DONG Benhong commented that Alibaba can reach 500 to 600 million young consumers through Tmall. They hope to help realize the dream of digital Olympics by using digital technology and the capability of their platforms to reach consumers.
He says that digital technology is the best bridge to pass down the Olympic spirit to the younger generation.
