Stephon Marbury honored in China with own postage stamp

By Sporting News 20 Apr 2015

The star of Stephon Marbury continues to rise, and not the one tattooed on his head.

The Coney Island native is making a big mark around the world from his play in the Chinese Basketball Association. He has led the Beijing Ducks to three titles and was even the series MVP. Marbury already has a statue in front of the arena, after leading the team to its first championship.

Now Marbury will reach superstar status by having his very own postage stamp. He's come a long way since the Knicks.

“It’s starting to take on a life of its own,’’ Marbury told the New York Post. "I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that people will be able to buy a stamp of me to mail packages anywhere in the world."

On top of that, Marbury will give a speech at the National Museum of China.

"I am truly humbled," Marbury said. "Never did I imagine in all of my 38 years of living that I — a kid who grew up 7,000 miles away from Beijing and a kid who came from the projects of Coney Island — would have a stamp of myself. I can never have dreamed it.”

Marbury plans to be back in the United States in late April and attend some playoff games. In his speech, he plans to announce he will be back for another season with Beijing.
