By Pu Yang 22 Oct 2015

China is set to take part in the 2016 FootGolf World Cup to be held in Argentina in January next year with a 4-player team, reported China Daily.

Ruan Chen, Pi Siwei, Ji Jie and Liu Mengyang stood out in a nationwide FootballGolf championship held at a Shenzhen-based golf resort named Mission Hills Group, first FootGofl organization in the country.

"It will be a great honor for me to play at such an international competition on behalf of China as I have played soccer for over 3 decades which include 10+ years of professional soccer," said Ruan Chen.

The 2016 FootGolf World Cup is expected to have the likes of Lionel Messi and former Argentine internationals Juan Veron and Diego Maradona boost the sport by displaying their skills during the event, according to Danniel Yamamoto, public affairs director of the Argentine Footballgolf Federation.

Footgolf, an aportmanteau of football (soccer) and golf, is a precision sport requires players to kick a soccer ball into a cup in as few shots as possible. Since its rules were strandardized in 2009, the newly promoted sport has seen growth in the globe and China as well.
